We had a great time at the Minnesota state fair on Sunday, it was the hottest day of the year! We ate the following fatty foods: Mini Donuts, Cheese curds, french fries, corn dogs, pork chop on a stick, milk shakes, all you can drink milk for 50 cents, deep fried candy bars and ice cream. See if you can beat that!

Here we are getting out caricature done. We've always wanted to do it, and we finally broke down and got one..

Here is an interesting article from Ion Mihai Pacepa, a Romanian, who is the highest-ranking intelligence officer ever to have defected from the former Soviet bloc. He details why he thinks that Russia was in bed with Saddam, and why he thinks that they helped Saddam get rid of all traces of his WMD. (which may be why we are having problems finding traces of them now) Very convincing and damning article.

This weekend Maria and I participated in our friends', Nate and Tiffany's wedding. Maria was a beautiful bridesmaid, and I was an usher. It was an outdoor wedding at the Earl Browne Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. The weather was unbearably hot, so all the groomsman/ushers didn't wear their suit coats. The guests were all using their bulletins for fans. The ceremony, luckily, was very short, and we were enjoying refreshments within 35-40 minutes. The newlyweds are heading to Banff for their honeymoon. Have fun guys!

I have been increasingly aghast at the Episcopal Church this past week as they took the unprecedented step of approving a practicing homosexual as a bishop. When you hear people in that church interviewed about it, you hear them talking about how this is a victory for "tolerance" and diversity. Instead of coming to save us from our sins, they have changed it to be "jesus has come to make us feel good, and to be loved". I think they are headed down a dangerous rabbit hole by allowing this to happen. Much of my thinking is explained in this piece:

Gospel of Inclusion?

Its Episcopal disciples leave little room for Scripture

Over the past month or two I have been corresponding with a woman in Iran. We met because she was using the http://www.blogger.com website, and was having problems with her own blog. She emailed me asking for help with her blog, and I was able to give her some pointers. We have been corresponding ocassionally ever since. She just sent me pictures of her family, here they are:

It is very interesting talking to her, and it is cool finding out what others perspective is on the world and all the things that are going on, especially in her region of the world. Its nice to know that even when it seems like there is no hope for people to get along, you meet someone from another culture who you can relate to. Thanks Mitra for opening my eyes to your part of the world!

Ever notice how we never hear any good news coming out of Iraq, even though every day, things are getting better in Bagdhad? James Lileks looks at this in a satirical piece titled: "James Lileks: As fascists, these guys are doing a lousy job"
