Fowler agrees to buy Vikings

Saying that "The eagle has landed," Red McCombs this afternoon began the end of his tenure as owner of the Minnesota Vikings.

At a news conference at Winter Park in Eden Prairie McCombs introduced Reggie Fowler, the likely new owner of the Vikings. McCombs praised Fowler as a businessman who has the means to buy the team.

For his part, Fowler, large in stature, short on speech, affirmed McComb's statement.

"We would not be here today if we did not have the ability to make the transaction,'' Fowler said.

Both Fowler and McCombs refused to discuss the price for the team, but others sources have estimated it at $625 million.
